Getting a flat completely rewired (and replumbed!)

Post Posted: Tue Apr 26, 2011 1:38 am

Any idea how much it might cost to get a 3-bed flat rewired (Cairo obviously!) and how much mess might be involved and how long it might take? (Just ball-park figures - I mean a few thousands or ten thousand plus?)

I have concluded following a number of minor but concerning incidents that I have to prioritize this!

Also would you do it before or after plumbing?

wow thats a tough question to answer without seeing what you mean when you say plumbing/new as its all buried in the walls and some under floors? or you only meant the items which are exposed.

I would think you should be able to pull new wires and replace pretty much everything except light fixtures even if you use the best available materials/brands and skilled labor.it should be well under ten thousand for the electric.

if you have trouble with your electric i would do this first without question.

how many circuits are in your breaker box in total.

I thought you did this in the past?

I did have electrician come round last year to sort out electric shocks coming from my hot water system. I was going to get work done, but I went to the UK for a month, then it was ramadan, then I got sick for a couple of months, blah blah then there was the revolution....

There are 19 circuits in the breaker box. My brother (an electrician in the UK) has recommended I get an RCD fitted. I don't know if I have one that maybe looks different to a UK one and not having a clue what those might be called in Arabic, a friend is going to come over and see if I have one and if not get an electrician to come fit one so at least that is some protection if things get worse!

Some of the problems are: tiny electric shocks from the microwave casing + certain sockets in the kitchen (and elsewhere) where things blow after a bit of usage so I have to stop using them + flames shooting out of one socket + one particular light fitting - when I replace the light bulb - if I twist it one way all the lights in half of the flat come on, twist it the other way and the lights in the other half of the flat come on! Just a selection.

If it was just one or even two of these, then I might think it's the gadgets that are being plugged into them, but there are too many of these things going on now so time to get it done. 10000 LE sounds like a good upper bound.
