Gardening Suppliers

Post Posted: Fri Feb 10, 2006 9:27 pm

Hi Everyone,

I thought I had posted this question but can't see it so will try again.

Does anyone know of decent garden equipment suppliers, including plants etc.

At the moment I am specifically looking for the black weed control fabric laid under gravel in the Uk ... does anyone know if it can be bought here?

I am in the northwest cornrt of Bulgaria near Lom and Montana.

Thanks all

Diana

Has no-one done any gardening since moving to Bulgaria then? If you have where are you geting your composts, plants trees etc from please?

I am struggling to find anyone with any choice of things to get for the garden, but there must nbe places as there are some lovely gardens around in Bulgaria.

Hi Diana

We have found 1 gardening supply but they only had plants, bushes etc. No sign of compost, fertiliser etc but we are going to keep on looking cause I want to start my vegetable garden. When I get back over I'll let you know if I find anything but the shops may be a bit far out for you. Central Bul.

There is a supplier near Plovdiv, we have passed it a few times. It is on the main road from Plovdiv to Assenovograd, just before you turn to the airport. They have lots of things there but don't know about the weed control fabric. I will check it out in a few weeks when we go to pick our friends up from the airport . Have you tried the hardware shops? there might be something suitable.
As for seeds etc, here in Smolyan you can get them from the florist shops, although we have had fortyfive packets of different seeds brought out for us.! I only hope I can grow them, if I do I will save the seeds and send you some for next year.

Hi All thanks for the replies, I actually had an email from somene last night saying you can buy the weed control fabric here at a store in Sofia, but here it is white instead of black, so I am going to Sofia in March and will check it out.

Any seeds will be greatly appreciated next year dizzie di, thanks, I am just starting to plant this year and have some from the Uk but will always need more, as some will no doubt fail. I tried to groe lavender last year but nothing happened so will try again. Anybody seen any lavender plants here, or has any wiling to let a few cuttings go in the spring?

I will update if I find the fabric is ok.

Thanks again

hi diana,
can i please call you 'di' as i can never remember if its diana or diane, if i made a mistake 'sorry' x.
if i can remember, i will bring you some lavender cuttings, but i need to check first to see if its legal, i dont really want to start my new life behind bars Crying or Very sad
if all is o.k. with law Smile i will bring other cuttings with me to plant up for when i'm there and pass some onto you.
i think you may find answers for your gardening problems with the bulgarian people and the way they garden, alot of them seem to be very sucessful in growing fruit and flowers, we use alot of tomato fertiliser in this country, and they grow beautiful tomatoes, so if you work back from that, specially on the net, you should be able to find out what you need and where you can get it from. [gardening is a lovely way to get to know people and i am sure that you will get all the info you need between locals and internet ].
cant wait to get my fingers into that soil !
happy gardening.
