registration of people coming to BG

Post Posted: Mon Feb 27, 2006 5:06 pm

Can anyone tell me about the new law relating to registering guests who stay with you when they come to BG.Is it true that they have to register when they arrive at a BG airport? also in the area that they are staying.
Thanks

Don't quote me on it, but I read somewhere on a website that you fill in the registration form at the airport and the person who is putting up the guests has to register at the police station. Also, for example if staying at a hotel, the hotel has to report to the police station with a list of people staying there everyday. It's a while since I read this and I can't remember where I found this info. Like I said, please don't quote me.

Last time I came back to bg, January 2006, I was handed a form to complete at Sofia airport, but no pen!!! so be warned. I asked one of the customs men if I needed to complete it as I have a residency permit (lichna karta) and he said no.

So this is just a little snippet which may help someone

When you arrive in BG You must register yourself in the nearest police station or in the local municipality. Even you are in the hotel the hotel takes your passport details ands declares your staying. This registering give you one month legal staying in Bulgaria

As from Jan 1st 2006 you now register at point of entry, no need for police station registry anymore.

Well, it doesn't seem quite clear... there are all sorts of stories out there, from not registering at the airport through to those who have been fined....

The consensus of opinion, and that of our lawyers, runs like this : fill out the landing or entry card (if the guys on customs, entry control, etc.. don't want it, that's ok, but you have done it) - and still register with the police (unless you are staying in someone elses accommodation - paying or not - or at a hotel, in which case it is up to them to do this for you)

Bit confusing right now....and nobody likes it, but better safe than sorry - hopefully, it will all get cleared up... in the meantime, just fill out the cards and register as necessary and then you are sure you are OK and will not be slammed with a fine!

All the best, Jain

Hi All,

Just to clear this point up i have come in and out of the country, compleating visas for my ID Card to stay here, and each time i have to go to the local Visa/Imigration office to tell them where i am staying, in my farthers appartment, he also has to come as the registard owner of the property and we fill out and sign the White Registration Card of a Foreigner, this is in English. But any Hotel or Guest house worth its salt should do this for you as they have the facilities but always worth asking the question to make sure. If you live here all the time you will need to go with your guest to the Imigration control office to do this. You Must Do This Within 5 Days of entry(not including weekends) or you will face a 200Lev fine which you will have to go to the police station to pay.

Hope this helps any further Q's let me know Cool
