visiting boyfriend in Dubai

Post Posted: Tue Feb 28, 2006 3:53 pm

Hi,
I need to know if it is against the law for someone to visit his/her boyfriend/girlfriend at his/her appartment in dubai.

If a girl comes to dubai and stays at a guy's place for a week or less, would that be ok? or is it against the law and could cause deportation for the guy?

thanks

I use to visit my other half while he lived here in Dubai and I was in the uk, we would walk down the street hand in hand.. we still do now we are married and living in Dubai.

There is an issue that ppl that are not married are not allowed to live together when in the same country but many ppl do and get away with it.

Cello,

There's no law that would forbid a man and a woman from holding hands in Dubai, regardless of being married or not. In Sharjah, it's a little different, but just keep it well-mannered and civil.

Any sort of public show of affection should be kept to a minimum, especially during the Holy month of Ramadan, but stick to what would be accepted, respectful behaviour in any country/community and you'll be fine.

As for visiting your boyfriend, again there should be no problem as long as you keep things private. If it's for a week or two, I would not even worry at all. Make sure there are two beds, 0.01% chance of someone coming around for census.

Don't advertise the situation and stay below the radar. This does not mean you have to sneak through the halls and duck into the elevator every time you hear people coming, - just act normal and people will assume you are married anyway.

Remember, even though Dubai is for EVERYONE, it's still a Muslim country.

All the best and I hope you enjoy u't visit here in Dubai!!
