Promo for the eastern Algarve.

Post Posted: Sun Sep 01, 2013 12:30 am

Holidaymakers. Why not switch your holiday destination (if possible) to the Eastern Algarve.
Play it safe!

Tourist chiefs are playing down the fact that the western Algarve, in the region of a top tourist destination, Armaçao de Pera, is indeed mosquito infested. And to top that is the fact that foul water has closed the beaches in that area. To reassure tourists however, there have been no instances, to date of Dengue or Malaria fevers, on the portuguese mainland. However the north African coast is only about 120nm from the Portuguese Algarve, as the mosquito flies.

Dear Tombo,

If tourist chiefs think Armaçao de Pera is in the Western Algarve I have grave concerns as to their knowledge re. the geography of their own country. It is nowhere near the Western Algave and is probably just as close to the east. Please check the map and you will find half of the Western Algarve is also on a different coastline.

When I read a statement such as this perhaps this is the reason I can never find out about local events from the tourist information offices Smile

Carol. I have just checked my map and indeed Armaçao does look more coastal central.
I guess it is just the way I look at it.
Leave Faro turn west and it follows the coast all the way to the Atlantic.
Turn east and it goes all the way to the spanish border.
There is no central coastal region. There is only an east and west. I would think central algarve would be in the hinterland, some place like Monchique.

regards

Yes windward and Leeward. Reminds me of the Caribbean.

Let's have a feud!
We'll have to establish a border; north of Faro in the hills it could be unclear, and people will need to know which side they're on.

Failing that, we could have origin country rivalry; the French and Dutch will have to decide whether to ally themselves with the British or the Germans...

The language barrier would probably take most of the fun out of it though.

Clearly the central algarve is only the golden triangle, clearly us lowly folk are put into either West or East Algarve!
