Good morning all. Has anyone registered with the Health Clinic in Algoz? What was involved? Do they speak English? Thank you in advance.

Sorry Victoria - No. We tried some years ago to register in Lagoa when we lived "over that way" and were simply "dismissed" although I do know people who have registered. I'm afraid we simply rely on our private medical cover. In an emergency then, yes, I would call INEM (who are excellent).

Hi Rod,
Have you a telephone number for INEM, please?
Regards

I believe that the emergency service (INEM) is 112. When I called them last I was living on the Golf Course so they (the onsite security company) did it for me. Now I simply hit my "Security alarm system" that will activate a call to the Security Company that I use. See the web site for INEM.

112 is the nr to call for emergencies such as INEM (Instituo Nacional de Emergencias Medicas or national institute for medical Emergencies).

Hi Victoria - if you are a national of a EU country resident in Portugal you are entitled to register in your local Centro de Saude. You may not be allocated a GP but will be seen by the doc available on the day. The charges are the same as the Portuguese people. If they did not go up this year it will be 5 euros for consultation.

Take your pspt, fiscal nr, residency paperwork, any papers you can think about and go there and ask for registration.

If you need anything I can help with pls send PM. Good luck.

Well you will not be seen the same day in this area unless you are crawling in on your hands and knees.

You have to wait for a "vaga" which can be a few day away then get there about 1 hour before the session then wait for hours.
Who you get can be anyone. Unlikely to speak english in this area and also of unknown nationality

You join the queue with the rest of the unfortunates the majority of whom are down on their luck.
To get seen the same day one has to report to Faro General A & E then be prepared to wait for hours and hours.

I am talking about this area, other areas perhaps have a better situation.

Myself, if I have the choice, before electing to go to the local Health Centre I would call EasyJet first.
Good luck.
