Can I trust Property Management Agencies?

Post Posted: Wed Mar 15, 2006 5:00 pm

Hi all,

I am currently looking at buying a second property as a buy-to-let investment. My target market will be short-term holiday rentals, and I am planning on hiring the services of a property rental management company. However a few friends have warned me about untrustworthy agencies that rent out properties without declaring the income to the property owner. I don’t want to fall victim to this scam.

Has anybody had this type of experience?
Is this a justified concern?
Can you recommend any trustworthy agencies?

Thanks

Andy

The only one I've come across was English and had some questionable practices. I fear it's not going to be easy.

Is it perhaps possible to organise the letting from your end? Perhaps a frivolous idea but it might be worth it if the property is of high value and you can't trust someone this end.

The only way to find out if they are trustworthy, is to ask them for some names and addresses of passed costomers! Its not foolproof!
When you go to look at prospective houses, you could ask around the area and get an idea from the locals, but still be careful as the chap they recomend might just be their 2nd cousind next door neighbor!
If your looking at the islands, then take a look at www.livinginthesun.com
okay so they are house agents but it does have some practical advise on there about buying property and renting , and about living on the islands.
Also check out the greece and greek islands an expats guide at the top of this forum.
Good luck.
