Solar panel warning - scam

Post Posted: Wed Jan 11, 2017 12:55 am

There is a company that has got hold of all those who had panels (hot water) fitted a few years ago. They contact the client, offer a good price, once agreed they 'service' the unit and then wallop a massive bill. They charge for materials fitted (or not) - they show a sacrificial diode that is covered in corrosion and state we changed this! This diode only needs changing once it has sacrificed itself. Check with the manufacturers who are the 'legal' service company.

I do have the relative companies names but will not post. PM for the info. I will be contacting the person who had this bad experience for an update. One of the other 'cons' is to change the pressure relief valve - 'from a manual to auto valve' they are one of the same. This is normally a small valve with a red top - these only require changing if they start dripping. Do Not block the outlet of this valve with a plug, you create a bomb, a local Brit plumber did this to a 6bar valve, I saw this and immediately removed the valve and fitted a replacement - €11.
