MEO satellite "signal too low"

Post Posted: Mon May 08, 2017 6:36 pm

We have a poor internet speed and took a MEO package in February which threw in a satellite and MEO box.It worked well when we were out then but relatives staying at our house tell us that they cannot get anything out of the box as they are just getting a message that the signal is too low.

We cannot understand how things can change in that way so quickly but a neighbour has a similar problem. Has anyone else had this experience and have they managed to resolve the problem? I am reluctant to believe that MEO would, or could, boost they signal to get sales and then weaken it .

Interestingly our neighbours dish points in a slightly different direction to ours.

If I was in Portugal I would phone and harass the MEO technical people on, from memory 16209.Does anyone know if that is a number which you can phone from the UK and if so what is the number to dual from the UK?

All thoughts welcome!

Many thanks.

You could try +351 707 223 030 but it's a full international call without any cap, unlike the local numbers (from www.meo.pt/linhas-apoio).

Perhaps, if the dish is safely accessible, your relatives could check if it's securely fixed. If it's at all loose they could try moving it a little in each direction to see if the signal strength improves. If your neighbour would have a similar small dish for Portuguese satellite TV its direction could be used as a guide.

Craib, You could ask JD to ask Doug to check the alignment.

I seriously doubt the satellite has lowered the signal power; unless it's become damaged, there is no reason to do so.

Far more likely is a problem on the ground; misaligned dish, bad connection, faulty LNB.

You'll have to get someone out there to check it.

Many thanks for the very helpful responses. Apologies for the delay in acknowledging but preparing for downsizing at home while supervising works on new home so life a bit chaotic at present!

It certainly sound like a dish or other problem in the earth part of the reception and I shall have that checked out.
