Scotland as a Nation

Post Posted: Wed Dec 13, 2017 1:42 pm

ExpatFocus, like many other internet places lumps Scotland in with the UK and in the process, quite innocently, creates a certain resentment amongst the vast majority of Scots who regard their home as a country; not as a political issue but more one of national identity. The same could be said for Wales and Northern Ireland, collectively known as "The Home Countries" or in old rugby parlance - The Four Nations.

More directly of relevance to Expats the law, systems, culture and survival mechanisms in Scotland differ, often in important ways, to the rest of the United Kingdom. Often the four nations are represented as secondary choices within an overall UK heading giving people the choice of looking at the UK if their interest is general and focusing in on the relevant nation if they plan to spend some time in it.

It would be interesting to hear what Expats with an interest in this forum think and also to hear the views of the ADMINS.
