Olá!

If you are looking intensive Portuguese courses in Lisbon, Algarve or Porto, I recommend Ibérica Languages, they offer best schools and often have discounts:

We are new to the forum and intend immigrating to Portugal in 2020. We have started with the Language learning process using the Duolingo App to get a basic idea. I am now at a stage where I am completely lost with the sentence structures between English and Portuguese. If it will be successful is another question. Our home language is Afrikaans and English. We will have to attend classes in future before we arrive.

What you need to know about Duolingo is that it works on American English and Brazilian Portuguese. It leaves my Portuguese girlfriend very frustrated.

Thanks. We have selected European Portuguese in the App and hope it is not mixed up with the Brazilian version. We have noted from time to time strange words appear in the answers, but then the correct word in similar phrases. At least it will give us an advantage when we arrive, although it will be difficult. To learn a new language at my age is already a challenge.

You got us going there Pieter with the "European Portuguese"! Where did you find that, as our version of the app is only offering Brazilian Portuguese?

Looks like I am wrong with the option to select European Portuguese. I was convinced I have selected European Portuguese and have now even registered again under a different profile, but you are correct, no choice. My apologies for the wrong information.

I will stop to use Duolingo immediately and investigate other options.
