repairing a satellite dish and buying a 4G antenna

Post Posted: Mon Sep 03, 2018 8:46 pm

We live in the west of the Algarve and have a very poor ADSL internet service through our landline, no chance of a fibre connection, and a mobile signal of varying strength. As a result we have a range of ways of connecting to the net-all less than ideal.
I now need to find someone, hopefully from the Lagos area who could repair our satellite dish and also want to find someone who supplies antenna for mobile routers which reply on a SIM card to create an internet connection.

All suggestions will be very welcome.

Many thanks.

Craib.

Can't help with local suppliers but can recommend an easy DIY solution for 4G system, though if you have a very weak or no mobile phone signal still may not work or you would need a very good aerial arrangement. If you have some sort of mobile phone signal then Huawei B593s-22 unlocked router with a Poynting xpol-0001 omnidirectional aerial or xpol-0002 semi directional aerial (do you know where and have you line of sight to the nearest mast). Both can be had from fleabay for 40-70 pounds if patient. The router is an old but well regarded model, other/newer and more expensive brands/models available of course. Poynting aerials are also well regarded, far superior to "unbranded" types that promise a lot but don't deliver and is likely to be more expensive than the router!! The omnidirectional may be best if you aren't sure where or don't have line of sight, both can be window or externally mounted, both would be a massive improvement on any "rabbit ears" on the router. Finally, testing different phone providers or with the cheap PAYG 4G sims from NOS, MEO and Vodafone will identify the best provider for your location......for me its Vodafone by a country mile!
