Are expat salaries taxable in Vn?

Post Posted: Thu May 18, 2006 2:57 pm

Hello to everyone! I'm here again. I had a posting about Vn, unfortunately no one replied to about a month ago and I'm happy to let everyone know that I recently accepted a job offer in Hanoi and I'm quite excited about it. However, I recently found out while doing internet research that foreigner/expat salaries are subjected to Vn income taxes? Is this true? I have worked offshore before and I know for a fact that salaries obtained from working offshore are tax-exempt. I just need some enlightenment...

I hope to get some answers here from other expats. Thanks very much and I will appreciate any response from anyone about this matter very much!

Have a good day!

Corinne

bad news - the salary is fully taxable...
if you stay < 30 days, then 25%, if not up to 40%...

An example ? my example ...

I'm french, working in vietnam ... i have a contract devided into two parts ... on local part, on which i pay taxes ... actually, it is understood with my company that they pay taxies for me ... well they do the paper work. And i have an offer agreement, from the head office of the owner, in singapor, that pay me a salary complement, out of vietnam, in france in my case, free of charge ...

That's it ...
