Can I work on my husbands work visa/permit?

Post Posted: Thu Aug 10, 2006 7:18 am

hello
Moving to the Netherlands in January. My husband company is the reason, so he will have the work visa. Will I have to get my own visa or can I work on his? The company is getting the residence visas for the entire family, but I didn't know if I needed to try and ask them for the money for a work one for myself...Thanks for any help. This stuff is getting overwhelming. It is amazing the things I have taken for granted while living in the US, I bet there is more to come

Hi....I can understand why you are overwhelmed with paperwork. There is a lot required but just be glad you have someone helping you organize it. Go to www.ind.nl.....and maybe they will have information about working here. I am not sure and I don't want to give you false information. But...I do believe that if you have a resident visa that you will be able to work here also. Coming here with your husband for work is much easier than doing it for other reasons, believe me. And yes, there will be lots of surprises if you have never lived in Europe, as I had not either. But its an opportunity to get to live in another culture and at least here, most people speak English so you don't feel quite so isolated not knowing the language. Ask any questions you might have. I have been here almost 3 years and am from the souther U.S. I will be glad to answer any questions you might have anytime.
