Looking to move

Post Posted: Thu Oct 05, 2006 2:22 am

Me and my husband are looking to move from the UK to Amsterdam next year. I have several years experince working in recruitment and have seen plenty of jobs in this field. I am wanting to find work before moving and my husband will find work once we've moved. How easy will it be for me to find work? Also I have heard that you have to go on a waiting list for rental accomodation, is this true? Any help/advice would be appreciated.

If you do not speak Dutch, finding a job can be a little harder than with the language. It is not impossible to find a job without Dutch, but it does make it much harder. Also, if you have not already, you need to check out www.ind.nl, for the rules and regulations to be able to move here from the EU. As for rentals in Amsterdam, if you want to live in or near the center, then it is very hard to find anything decent, and if you do, it is very expensive. If you look at outside of the city a short distance, it is not as expensive. Try www.elynx.nl. They have listing for apartments, etc. Good luck.

Coming from another EU country you should not have problems to move and live in the NL. Sometime they make you buy a green card sort of thing but according to EU laws you don´t need it.
