Work permit whilst in Canada??

Post Posted: Mon Nov 06, 2006 11:56 pm

Hi,

I don't know if anyone can help me. My flatmate is here on a one year working holiday visa, but wants to stay longer. I've got some info off the CIC website, but wondered if anyone knew if she'd be able to apply for a "normal" work permit while she's here? Not having to go down that route, to be honest with you I don't even know where to start! She's done the test on line & would have enough points to start PR, but I know she'd have to be back in the UK to do this. So at the moment she's just looking for a way to get a longer work permit.

Any help or advice would be great!!

Hi Tamsin - She could try for an extension. She would need to contact the canadian embassy (in canada) before her permit expires for an extension and, apparently, they are normally granted in the right circumstances.
If you can show sufficient funds etc and allow enough time it can happen.
Be honest, don't try to hide and you should be OK!
Best wishes

Just a point of clarification, it isn't the " Canadian Embassy " that she needs to speak to. It should be the Canada Immigration local office, in whatever town she is living in, in Canada.

That number and address can be found in the "Blue Pages " of the telephone directory, under the Federal Government listings.

Hi Jim,

Unfortunatly the type of Visa she is one doesn't allow an extension. It's from BUNAC & is specifically as a working holiday visa. I'm trying to find out if she can apply for a normal working visa while she's in Canada.

Thanks for the help though.

Hi Tigger, what about the application for Change of Circumstances/Visa.

I had a visitor one when I arrived and looked at applying for Work Permit. I know its a bit different in that my hubby is here as skilled worker therefore I am entitled to open permit. I found I had to fill in an application of Change or circumstances. I can only think of the change application form, worth a try! If she has a job offer it would make all the difference I would immagine. If she doesnt try she will never know eh Smile
