Relocating from Ireland to Milan

Post Posted: Mon Jun 13, 2005 2:58 pm

Ok guys it's my first time posting on this site and I really need some info if any of you can help Smile

My Fiance is Italian (from Milan) and he would like to move back in the next year or 2. We're thinking of the lake district about an hour from Milan. I also have a son who will be 3 in August. Anyway, the thoughts of the move bring excitement but also dread, the main cause for the later is my son and employment for me ie. not having very much Italian etc. I'm worried will my son fit in ok ie. the language, would it be a bad move for him. And a job for me, what could I do?

Any advice or ideas would be great!

Thanks Very Happy

Hi, We have been here for a number of years. Lake area ideal for kids, as Lombardy has become very polluted in the winter. Also rents are lower in areas such as Como compared to Milan. I have no doubt your son would love it as it is a very child frindly place and facilities for kids are excellent. Jobs around the lake area are easier for English speakers than Milan due to the various activities linked to tourism. Also failry large expat set around the lake , if you need to fall back on this, plus a number of Irish.
Cioa for now.
