Immigration Lawyer in Greece

Post Posted: Tue Jan 09, 2007 5:11 am

Can anyone recommend an immigration lawyer in Athens who is experienced in assisting non-EU citizens (USA) with gaining residency permits to live in Greece? My partner and I are interested in moving and working in a European country and Greece is one of our preferences. We are currently living and working the US.

Gary,

I don't know any immigration lawyers such that I can give you a personal recommendation, however I would have thought that the U.S. Consulate would be able to give you an introduction.

Good luck,

John

Thanks to John and Yogis-Mummy for responding. I have looked at the Greek Consulate website and other resources trying to find attorneys who handle immigration issues. I have written several large firms for a consultation but I have had no responses. I did finally write the Greek Law Firm.com firm of Hahalis & Kounoupis (they have offices in the US and Greece) today and hope to hear from them soon. I did not write to this firm before as they did not seem to specialize in this area.

It just seems so odd that I am trying to give attorneys money for a consultation and no one will take my money. Because we are searching other EU countries also, I have retained a large law firm in Madrid to look into assisting us with residency and work permits and they have been working diligently on the case.

I wonder how many people are actually going through the bother of the paperwork. Being a non EU citizen though, it does not appear that we have many choices and I do not want to be constantly looking over my shoulder because my paperwork is not in order.

If anyone has any thoughts on this, I would appreciate your view.

Hi Gary,

My suggestion was that you contact the U.S. consulate, not the Greek consulate. I can only speak as a Brit, but for us our consulate provides introductions and recommendations to service-providers such as immigation lawyers - and so I thought that your consulate would do something similar.

Non-Greek EU citizens do require residency permits to live in Greece but this is a relatively straightforward process which most people handle themselves without professional advice.

I am sure that if the law firm you have contacted cannot help you they will at least be able to introduce you to a firm which can.

Gary (Pactzin),

I am curious as to what your experience was dealing with Hahalis & Kounoupis? Were they able to help you? Were you happy with them? I am looking for someone to help me as well.

Try Valmas & Associates
I used their law practice for advice on immigration and inheritance issues i was facing and have been well happy with the service. The main partner Ioannis is a good guy, knowledgeable and very helpful. He speaks good English too (he has lived in the US and UK) and that helped too as my Greek is terrible, well it is getting better recently Smile . I wholeheartedly recommend the guy.
