Bulgaria – Five Recommended Expat Blogs

Published Sunday September 07, 2014 (19:23:28)

Bulgaria seems to be growing in popularity both as a holiday destination and as an expat living location. We’ve spent some time looking for the best blogs for anyone who’s thinking of moving to Bulgaria and needs tips, practical advice or just an idea of what to expect.

The Good Life Bulgaria
http://thegoodlifebulgaria.com

With some beautiful photography, amusing stories of day-to-day life in rural Bulgaria and tips for people who are thinking of moving abroad, husband and wife team Andy & Marie run an excellent blog that puts its readers into the shoes of a person already living in the Bulgarian countryside. There are also several links to other sites that provide useful information for anyone thinking of moving there, and advice on finding the right property once you’ve decided to make the move.

Bulgarian Village Life
http://bulgarianvillagelife.blogspot.com

Jo’s blog is a refreshingly honest diary of life in a new country. With a positive outlook that nonetheless doesn’t ignore the challenges of rural life, Bulgarian Village Life charts Jo’s adventures in home renovation, dog ownership and exploration of her new surroundings. Jo also runs another blog devoted to Bulgarian village recipes, which can be found via the main site and provides a tantalising look into Bulgarian cuisine.

Bulgaria Stories
http://bulgariastories.com/blog

With the kind of sensible advice that’s just what you need when you’re moving abroad, Bulgaria Stories looks at life through the eyes of an expat US Peace Corps engineer. Another one that doesn’t sugar-coat their outlook, it’ll give you a glimpse of what it’s really like to be in Bulgaria as a non-native; polar winds and all! There are also some fascinating cultural anecdotes and tips about visiting and living in Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia.

Eat Stay Love Bulgaria
http://eatstaylovebulgaria.com/en/blog

Eat Stay Love Bulgaria is a very readable blog with some great ideas for keeping yourself amused – whether by wakeboarding in the Hydroparks or target practice at Sofia’s shooting range – and is a must-read for anyone who’s considering going to Bulgaria, whether for a prolonged stay or for life. There are useful tips about learning Bulgarian, managing money, and running a freelance business, as well as interviews with people who have already made the move.

A Letter from the Back of Beyond
http://aletterfromthebackofbeyond.blogspot.com

Chris is a retired Englishman living in a small Bulgarian village, blogging for other expats and for Bulgarian people who want to see how their country looks through new eyes. With tips and anecdotes about events, travelling around the country, and fixing plumbing problems, A Letter from the Back of Beyond will make the whole experience of moving to, and living in, Bulgaria seem less daunting.

Those are our five recommended expat blogs for today. Do you write a blog about being an expat? Let us know in the comments!
