In 2016, around 18.5% of the Irish population was recorded by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) as suffering from a mental health disorder, such as bipolar, schizophrenia, depression, or substance abuse. The OECD estimates that mental health problems cost the Irish economy over € 8.2 billion a year.
