Val Robus, Ireland

Val Robus
Who are you?

I'm Val Robus, I'm a housewife and mum, living in County Sligo, Ireland.

Where, when and why did you move abroad?

I moved from the UK in 1991. My parents are Irish but had moved to the UK in the 1950s and I was born in the UK. I married my Andy, my husband in 1990 and we'd had enough of the 'rat race' so we moved to Ireland.    more ...

Who are you?

I am Rachel Farndon. I’m in my twenties and I am a career expat.

Where, when and why did you move abroad?

My first big move was as a 9 year old when my family moved from New Zealand to Brunei. I have since travelled all over the world. In 2012 I made my next long term move to Ireland. This was purely spontaneous. I applied for a working holiday visa, picked up and left within about 3 months. I am now living and working in Manila, The Philippines.

How did you find somewhere to live?

In Ireland I had a number of happy coincidences.    more ...

Who are you?

I’m a 34 year old Slovak girl (I write a ‘girl’ and not a ‘woman’ because I still feel very young), who lives in Ireland. I’ve just finished my bachelor’s studies here: in languages, linguistics and culture. This was not the first time I studied though – I really like studying! I suppose I’m unusual in this compared to my counterparts: I’ve never had a job longer than half a year, I don’t drive, I’m not married and I don’t have children. I live in a small rented apartment in central Dublin. I enjoy travelling, reading, watching movies, walking/hiking and playing board games.

Where, when and why did you move abroad?

I arrived in Ireland in December 2006.    more ...

Matt Bisp
Who are you?

My name is Matt Bisp, and I’m a thirty nine year old male originally from Bristol in the south west of England. I am married to a beautiful Irish girl and have three perfect (most of the time) children, one aged seven, one aged five and the youngest aged two – all of them born in here in Ireland but I frequently remind them of their English stock! I work for one of the large Irish retail banks and I am a qualified accountant, and have been for over ten years.

Where, when and why did you move abroad?

I moved from Bristol to Dublin in July 2004 with my wife of 8 months at the time. We moved for a variety of reasons but mostly because we had married in November 2003 and our minds were drifting towards starting a family.    more ...
