Canada - New Brunswick
New Brunswick has what is classed as a continental climate, warm summers and cool winters. It is also a fairly wet province, experiencing on average 40 inches of rain per year. New Brunswick can also experience fog, mainly along the coastal region of the Bay of Fundy.
New Brunswick – Employment
When applying for work in New Brunswick it is worth noting that there are some professions which are closely monitored by the province government. Those who work in the medical profession and some construction professions are among those who are monitored. In order to work in one of these professions you will need to obtain a licence either from the national or regional regulatory organisations. Some regulated professions will allow you to work while you are waiting for your licence to be approved. The website of the New Brunswick province government can offer advice on the steps needed to be taken to obtain a licence and a list of professions that fall into this category.
New Brunswick’s major employers are the health care, education and finance sectors. Those who have qualifications in these areas will find that there are opportunities at all levels. Large parts of the area are rural and given over to agriculture, so there are also opportunities for those who want to have their own agriculture-based business, although there is no funding for expats to start a business and visa applicants will be expected to have funding in place.
New Brunswick – Property
New Brunswick does not have major cities but there are some large towns. Fredericton is one of the larger towns and there are several areas which are ideal for those who have families. The area of Skyline Acres has much to offer families but there are no schools in the immediate area. Homes are mainly single family homes and prices fall into a number of brackets, so there is something to suit all budgets. The New Maryland district is home to a number of new residential developments which offer a range of homes from apartments to single family homes. The area has primary schools but high schools are a short distance away. Most of the surrounding areas are rural and the district has much to offer in the way of leisure facilities.
The Hanwell district has a number of good schools both primary and high schools and is ideally situated for those who work and study at the university. There are good shopping and leisure facilities. Homes are mainly detached family homes and most have good sized gardens. The Lincoln neighbourhood is very rural and children can expect to have to travel to school, but there are good transport links to other areas of the town. Homes range from trailer parks to detached family homes and these come in a range of prices that will suit all budgets.
The town of Saint John is one of the oldest developments in Canada and is also the largest town in New Brunswick. The waterfront area of the town is home to many people and accommodation there is mainly apartments. Other areas have a range of homes available, from apartments to detached family homes. Property prices in the town are on a par with the regional average and there is a good range of schools at all levels.
The town has good medical and leisure facilities and parts of the town are undergoing regeneration, which is bringing new businesses and residential developments to the area. The Uptown area of Saint John is known for its cultural attractions such as museums and art galleries while the eastern part of town is home to several shopping malls and commercial areas.
