Social Security

Estonia - Social Security


Foreigners may be entitled to social security benefits from the Estonian government, depending on their work history in the country and their contribution as tax payers.

Social benefits for disabled people and funeral benefits can be classified as universal, covering all residents, but pension insurance, health insurance and unemployment insurance are contributory schemes. For information on a particular case, contact the Ministry of Social Affairs:

American Citizens residing in Estonia may receive their Social Security Benefits there.

US Treasury Checks are typically sent to the US Embassy in Tallinn.

Social security recipients should inform the Consular Section of the US Embassy whether they prefer to collect the checks in person or have the forwarded via local mail. Recipients should also be aware that the fees charged by local banks are often substantial.
