Qatar - Utilities (Electricity, Gas, Water)
Qatar has a reliable domestic electricity and water supply. Gas is not generally used for domestic energy purposes.
Utilities have been partly privatized since 2000, when government energy assets were transferred to the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (QEWC), which is 57% owned by private investors.
The water supply is clean and it is safe to drink the water straight from the tap, although most expatriates buy bottled water for drinking.
Both electricity and water are metered. Expatriates living in Qatar have reported that the sending out of bills is erratic and that they are often based on estimated readings, so people generally check their own meters as a safeguard.
