If you are an EU or US citizen and your planned stay in Romania doesn’t exceed 90 days, then things will be pretty straightforward for you. It is recommended that you make your presence known at the nearest police precinct if you planning to remain in the country for a period longer than 10 days; there are no strict controls in place to monitor this, but it should only take up about 30 minutes of your time, so it’s worth doing. more ...

Romania joined the European Union (EU) on 1 January 2007, but has yet to join the Schengen Area, which it is legally obliged to do. The Schengen Area allows borderless travel between the 26 countries who are members of the agreement.
