Bangkok - Crime & Safety
Fire Department: 199
Ambulance and Rescue: 1554
Bangkok is a safe city to live in, and expatriates would want to take the usual necessary precaution against petty crime and other minor disturbances. While violent crime against expatriates is rare, fraud (sales, credit card) tend to target tourists and expatriates.
The recent newspaper reports about the political situation in Thailand can be unnerving for expatriates, but living in another country apart from your own will always come with a set of new risks and potential dangers. Register yourself and your family with your home country's consulate upon arrival in Bangkok, and be familiar with your company's and country's emergency evacuation plans and policies. Expatriates who exercise decent caution against the usual dangers should not find Bangkok any less safe to live in than other Asian cities.
Expatriates should also take note that making negative comments about Thai's royalty and monarchy will not only solicit harsh criticism from the locals, but is also considered an offence punishable by Thai law.
