Bangkok is not only Thailand's leading tourist destination, but also the city of choice for most expatriates wishing to work in Thailand.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand website provides useful information on setting up a business in Thailand, including information on taxation, labor, import and export, business regulations. Their office is located on the

7th Floor, GPF Witthayu A, 93/1 Wireless Road, Lumpini, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330

Tel: +66 (0) 2254-1041 Fax: +66 (0) 2251-1605 Email: service@amchamthailand.com.

The education industry is booming in Bangkok, and there is a matching perennial demand for native English-language teachers. There are no formal qualifications required to teach English in Bangkok, although many expatriates who are teaching in Bangkok will recommend getting some internationally recognized teaching certification (e.g. TESOL). Expatriates interested to teach in Bangkok need only to check out the classifieds and employment listings in The Bangkok Post. Teaching in Bangkok and Thailand as a whole is an experience.

For other employment opportunities, such as managerial, professionals and executive positions in multinational corporations, note that these positions are usually sought out outside Thailand. Other job options are available in the finance and engineering sectors. It is sometimes possible to get clerical work at the various embassies, or work with one of the non-profit organizations based in Bangkok (e.g. UN-ESCAP). Freelance journalism with one of the English publications / newspapers is another option.
