Telephones

All fixed phone lines are provided by Turk Telekom. A connection fee applies, and monthly bills will be sent to your residence.

Public pay phones are available in all Post Offices and in many tourist areas. Some use coins and others accept phone cards.

Mobile phones are widely used throughout the country. There are mobile phone dealers in every city. In order to obtain an invoiced line subscription you must provide the following documentation:

1) Passport
2) Residence Permit
3) Surety document provided by a Turkish citizen, certified by a Notary Public. In the previous currency, TL, this was to the value of 250 million.
4) Residence address of the person submitting the surety document

You can also use prepaid mobile phone calling cards.


Postal Service

There are Post Offices conveniently located in all districts of every city and town.


Internet

Internet connections are provided either by Turk Telekom or by private companies using Turk Telekom's communication lines. Dial up service and cable connections are both readily available. Wireless service is less common but is growing in popularity.


Television

Local broadcast and cable television is available in most districts of all major cities. Satellite television and pay per view programming is also available. Many programs are broadcast in their original languages.


Radio

A wide variety of AM and FM radio programming is available throughout the country, mostly in Turkish.
