Abu Dhabi - Healthcare & Medical Treatment
There is no 'free' health care service except the one that is extended during an emergency.
Expats do not have to register themselves at a clinic on arrival in Abu Dhabi, but all foreign nationals and their families are covered by health insurance, as per laws of the Abu Dhabi government. The insurance and health cards are to be shown at the appointment with the doctor.
Emergency medical assistance is available on call at 998 and 999. Pharmacies are open throughout the week, with shorter working hours on Fridays. A number of mild drugs are sold over the counter in Abu Dhabi without a doctor's prescription, though some potently addictive drugs are difficult to come by.
