Getting There By Sea

United Arab Emirates (UAE) - Getting There By Sea

There are a few cruises starting in the Mediterranean that go through the Suez Canal and finish in Dubai and if you want to approach this wonderful city from the sea this would be great way of doing so. A flight to Barcelona is easy from the UK where you can board your traveling hotel and relax. There are other cities as well that have cruises to Dubai.

The alternative would be to buy or maybe a charter a private vessel and sail yourself through the 15,000 or so km’s from UK to Dubai, that’s going through the Suez Canal. If you want to go round The Cape Of Good Hope and up through the Arabian Sea it will be a lot, lot further. Probably hopelessly impractical not to say expensive but no doubt some people will have done it.

If you want a different way to get here by sea and don’t need the luxury of a cruise ship it is possible to get a cabin on a cargo freighter that goes from Southampton to Jebel Ali in Dubai. Cabins are limited but facilities are good. Smart double cabins, swimming pool and gym plus a lounge with audio-visual equipment are all there for you to enjoy. Meals are taken with the captain and there is a chance to talk to the crew and see first-hand what life aboard one of these enormous ships is all about. Some of the freighters can be 400 metres in length or the same as four football pitches!
