Canada - Getting There By Rail
You can travel from New York’s Penn Station into Toronto or Montreal with ease. Amtrak run daily journeys into both cities. The journey from New York into Toronto goes via Niagara Falls and the total journey takes just over 12 hours. The train is called the “Maple Leaf” and has both coach class and business class travel. The journey to Montreal takes place on the “Adirondack” train and is a direct train. The journey is slightly quicker than the Toronto train at around 11 hours. The Adirondack is coach class only. Both trains have full air conditioning, buffet car and comfortable reclining seats.
Once in Canada you will find the rail network to a very high standard and you can easily travel on to your final destination via rail if you wish. Anyone crossing the border between the US and Canada need to have a valid passport and you can expect the security checks to be as strict as they are at the airports.
