Hong Kong (City) - Crime & Safety

Click here to go to this city guide's homepage

Hong Kong is a safe city to roam, at any time of day or night. The police-to-population ratio is very high, and the crime rate is consequently low. The incidence of violent crime is very low, but be on the lookout for the usual urban street crime, such as pick pocketing, especially in crowded areas. There has also been some report of instances of spiked drinks in bars, targeting both males and females. When at nightclubs or bars, be wary of finishing your drink if you have left the drink unattended.

The typhoon season in Hong Kong normally runs from April to October. Typhoons occasionally hit Hong Kong, and may cause flooding and landslides. Advance warnings are given. Public offices are closed when the "Typhoon 8" signal is hoisted. Torrential rain and strong winds also occur in Hong Kong.
