Hungary offers a wide range of options for leisure, entertainment and sporting pursuits.
For day trips or weekends away Hungary offers beautiful countryside and medieval towns and villages rich in history. There are countless lakes including the vast Balaton, which are popular for watersports and for their top-class spa resorts.
Festivals and cultural events are held regularly throughout the country, including major annual events such as the Tisza Lake Festival and the Budapest Spring Festival.
Hungarians love sports, with horse-riding, water-polo and cycling being particularly popular. Hungary also has many excellent golf courses.
Budapest is a modern, lively city with many bars, restaurants, museums, concert halls and theatres. There are restaurants offering traditional Hungarian food as well as many types of international cuisine and fast-food options. The best restaurant in town is the world-famous Gundel's.
Within Budapest's expatriate community, a range of national, social, sports and professional clubs and associations have developed.
