Malaysia's internet infrastructure is very advanced. The easiest way to get connected is by Wireless connection (WAP). Many free access points are available in coffee shops and restaurants throughout KL. For home internet connection, however, the situation is somewhat different. There are many internet service providers, hence prices and service quality are competitive. However, the type of internet connection available for home use is largely dependent on the type of infrastructure installed in the building you reside in. Wired broadband internet access (ADSL) is offered, alongside basic dial-up internet services. Jaring (Tel: +603 8991 7080) is a dial-up internet service provider. TM Net (1-300-88-1515) offers both dial-up, narrow internet broadband and wireless connection for home users. ArcNet is the brand name for the Malaysian-Japanese company NTT MSC that offers DSL internet services for higher-end home users and businesses. Their coverage is somewhat limited to the availability of broadband infrastructure in buildings (mostly in KL central district and some parts of Petaling Jaya). Zapzone and MacroLynx are wireless hotspot providers in public areas and provide wireless connection for retail and enterprises.
The Malaysian postal service ("Pos Malaysia") is efficient and easily accessible. Post offices can be found all over KL. Normal and express (speed post), bill payments and remittance services are offered at the post offices. Some English is spoken. Call POSLINE Customer Service Center 1-300-300-300 for more information about their services and location of offices, or +60 3 2274 1122. Click here for a helpful Postcode and Location finder maintained by Pos Malaysia.
