Shopping

Luxembourg (City) - Shopping

The largest grocery store chain is Cactus. Cora (two hypermarts) and Delhaize (2 hypermarts and 28 supermarkets) and Game (13 chains) are other supermarket options. There are many small specialty shops like bakeries or patisseries / florists to pick up local delicacies. There are three major shopping malls in Luxembourg City: Auchan in Kirchberg, The City Concorde in Bertrange, and La Belle Etoile in Strassen. Auchan is a huge grocery store (12,000 square meter space) with a wide variety of wine, cheese and fresh produce (fruit, vegetables and seafood). Auchan also stocks many non-food items, including gardening tools, toiletries, electronics and sports equipment. There is a huge Cactus hypermart in La Belle Etoile. Aldi and Lidl are German discount supermarket chains. There are also online grocers that deliver to Luxembourg City and its environs, for example, Epicerie (at www.epicerie.lu), which is an up market grocery.

For fresh produce, try the farmers' markets at Place Guillaume in Luxembourg City on Wednesdays and Fridays (from 7am in the morning). There is only one known kosher grocery store in Luxembourg City – Boulangerie Philip (located near the main railway station).

Given the relative ease to travel between EU countries and Luxembourg City's central geographical location, some locals and expatriates prefer to grocery shop in the neighboring French city of Thionwille. French cities are known throughout Europe for having the best range of grocery products.
