Education & Schools

Toronto - Education & Schools

Toronto prides itself on the vibrating academic environment created by its many schools and colleges. The Toronto District School Board takes charge of the schooling needs of all communities, and has 550 schools located in proximity to all residential neighbourhoods of the city. The Board manages elementary, intermediate and secondary schools in addition to non-mainstream courses, adult day schools and online schools. For more details on schools run by the TDSB, refer to www.tdsb.on.ca

Some of the privately managed schools which deserve mention are: the Giles School www.gilesschool.ca/english/; and the Upper Canada College www.ucc.on.ca

Beyond schools, Greater Toronto has three universities for higher education. The University of Toronto, the countrys largest, offers 841 undergraduate and 520 graduate programs in addition to 42 professional programs, while York University has a student strength of 50,000 in 11 faculties.

Ryerson University is a polytechnic university offering courses in the field of art, applied arts, business, community services, engineering and applied sciences.
