United Kingdom (UK) - Air Travel (domestic)
Ticket Information and Purchase
The Internet has become an integral part of air travel with the availability of timetables, ticket prices, and purchasing options. Expats can explore independent sites or the airline’s own website in order to purchase tickets, obtain information and compare prices. There are more than 40 airlines serving the UK, most of which fly through London.
Numerous locations are served from the international airports in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and England. Daily flights can be found to Europe and North America. Flights to Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Central/South America take longer and usually require a stop during the journey. North American flights to the mid-western section of the United States will usually stop in New York, Miami, or Washington DC before continuing on to the final destination. This makes it easier for customs, as well as giving passengers a break from the long Atlantic flight.
Main flights often come into the United Kingdom from the USA, Germany, Canada, and Australia. Of course, flights will also arrive from the Middle East, France, EU countries, EEA countries, and several other locations, however stops are usually only required when flying from the four countries listed above. In Germany there are about 25 cities that have direct flights to the United Kingdom, including Berlin and Munich.
Flights out of Canada are not as varied, with approximately 12 airports with daily flights to London. Flights are found from Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, and British Columbia airports on a daily basis, as well as a few smaller locations.
For travellers from Australia, flights leave daily from over 15 airports including Melbourne, Perth, and Brisbane. However, there are only direct flights to the UK from Sydney and these are operated through British Airways.
