There is only one international airport in Singapore, Changi International, and it offers direct flights to all over Asia. You can also find connecting flights to destinations all over the world. For travel within Singapore, however, travelers must use with taxis, buses, trains, or private cars. There are also some ferry services available to some of the outlying islands as well as to Indonesia and beyond.
Seletar Airport is a small airport that does have charter capabilities. Stratos Jet Charters, for instance, has private jets and turbo-props for air charters trips in Singapore. Pacific Flight Services and Chiron Flight Services also offer private jet charters. Seletar Airport also serves limited scheduled commercial flights by Berjaya Air to the Malaysian islands of Pulau Tioman and Pulau Redang.
There are also a few military airports in Singapore. These include the Changi Air Base (West), Changi Air Base (East), Paya Lebar Air Base (formerly the Singapore International Airport), Sembawang Air Base, and Tengah Air Base. The Pulau Sudong Airstrip is a military base as well. These do not offer domestic flights for private citizens or expats. The Kallang Airport was once in operation but it closed in 1955.
In addition to military airports and bases and Changi International Airport, there are several helipads located in the city. These include the Brani Naval Base, Ministry of Defence Headquarters, Singapore General Hospital, and the Changi General Hospital.
Most of Singapore is accessible by road, including some of the islands. Rail and bus travel are the most popular forms of transportation on the island. The Mass Rapid Transit offers an extensive rail system that runs through Singapore and the Light Rail Transit also goes through some of the neighborhoods. Ferries connect the other islands to the main island.
Buses and trains connect Singapore with Malaysia and Thailand. The Second Link and the Causeway are both bridges that go into Malaysia. From there, you can travel on to Bangkok and other destinations.
Singapore Air, Singapore’s national air carrier, is considered one of the top airlines in the world. With first class services, comfortable seating, and friendly staff it’s considered a top-notch experience by many travelers who fly the airline regularly. In addition, the Changi International Airport is consistently ranked as one of the best airports in the world, too. Not only does it offer the standard restaurant and shops, it goes the extra mile to offer napping rooms, showers, children’s play area, walking trails, a cinema, and even a swimming pool. Since Singapore can be a stopping point on Australian flights into Europe, special attention has been paid to making sure the traveler’s experience at the airport is not only comfortable but even fun and luxurious.
