Los Angeles - Leisure, Entertainment & Sports
Baseball is an integral part of American culture, and Dodger Stadium gives you the opportunity to experience one of the country's favorite sports. This 56,000 seat stadium is routinely filled with diehard fans and visiting families alike, all of whom gather to witness Los Angeles's favorite team, the L.A. Dodgers. While you're here, be sure to buy hot dogs and beer from one of the many vendors wandering through the arena.
For a more relaxing experience, visit the Aquarium of the Pacific, a five acre facility that houses over 12,000 fish, amphibians, mammals, and birds. Professional divers swim among the sharks and giant sea bass while providing information to crowds of onlookers via microphone. On Friday evenings, you can even sleep over at the aquarium, providing you with a unique experience among the many sea creatures.
To experience Los Angeles in all its glitz and glamour, head to the Sunset Strip, one of most famous locations in the world. Here, you can witness some of the most ostentatious displays of wealth in the city, and take in a blues band performance at the famed House of Blues. Sipping a drink by the rooftop pool of one of the Strip's exclusive bars is also an experience to be remembered.
If you are moving to Los Angeles with Children, Disneyland is a must-see. This mammoth park features rides suitable for both kids and adults, a fantasyland Main Street, and costumed Disney Characters available for photos with you and your children. Disneyland is the third most visited theme park in the world, behind Disneyworld in Orlando and Disney Tokyo.
Another choice for families is Six Flags Magic Mountain, where you will find enough roller coasters and thrill rides to last a lifetime. One of the park's signature rides is the Goliath, which features a 250 foot drop that sends passengers careening through a steam filled tunnel at 85 miles per hour. Six Flags Magic Mountain also offers many gentler rides suitable for small children.
Los Angeles's beaches can be enjoyed year round, thanks to the area's agreeable winter weather. There are over 20 beaches in the Los Angeles Area, each with its own distinct personality. Venice Beach, for example, is known as one of the best people watching spots in the city, while Zuma Beach, north of Malibu, is famed for its superior surfing waves and clean water. If you have children, Santa Monica Beach is a good choice, largely because of the amusement park located on its long pier.
