Washington DC - Getting There
There are three airports within the Washington Metropolitan area: The Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), the Baltimore / Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and the Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA). All three airports operate international and domestic flights. IAD and DCA airports have 423 weekly departures to 21 international destinations. There are more than 30 international airlines serving the IAD airport, such as Air Canada, Air France, Austrian, British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, South African Airways and Virgin Atlantic. There are about 15 airlines serving the DCA airport, such as Air Canada Jazz, Alaska Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta, Northwest, United airlines. At BWI, there are 16 scheduled international flights and 633 domestic flights daily. There are 31 international airlines serving the BWI airport, such as Air Canada, Air Jamaica, American Airlines, British Airways, Continental Airlines and United airlines.
Take note that the airports are located in different parts of the Washington Metropolitan area. The IAD is 26 miles west of downtown DC, and BWI is 29 miles northeast of DC. The DCA is located within the DC itself (across from the Potomac River), and is connected to the Metrorail.

For land transfers, getting to downtown DC by private car or hired taxi are the best options. A taxi ride (BWI Taxi Management Tel: (410) 859-1100) from BWI to DC will cost around US$79, while a private sedan (RMA Worldwide Tel: (410) 519-0000; (301) 912-0000; (800) 878-7743; 24 hour daily service) will cost US$120. A taxi ride (Washington Flyer Taxi Tel: (703) 572-TAXI or 8294) from IAD to D.C. will cost between US$51-58 (excluding surcharges). A taxi ride from IAD airport to DCA airport will cost around US$58. DC is a hub for its rail system. There are daily connections to Baltimore, Wilmington, Philadelphia, New York and Boston operated by Amtrak, and daily weekday commuter rail services between Fredericksburg and Manassas Virginia and downtown Washington DC, operated by the Virginia Railway Express.
