The country data behind our comparison tools, destination scorecards and ranking pages combines Expat Focus research with respected public datasets. This page records those sources and their licences.
World Bank open data
The following indicators are drawn from World Bank Open Data, used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) licence:
- International Comparison Program (ICP): purchasing power parity and price level indices, including the 2021 housing price level index
- Health expenditure per capita and physicians per 1,000 people
- Intentional homicide rate
- International migrant stock
Figures are processed by Expat Focus into comparative bands; any errors introduced in that processing are ours, not the World Bank’s.
Expat Focus datasets
Visa and residency route information, healthcare system notes, tax regime summaries, climate reference data and cost-of-living detail are compiled by Expat Focus from official government and public sources, and checked against those sources at the date shown on each tool.
