Lithuanian Ria named her blog after a joke about her home in Kasongan, Yogakarta, by her mum that this Indonesian home her daughter was living in looked just like a big tent. Having won a scholarship to study the language and culture of Indonesia it is unsurprising that she has a blog filled with useful information from what to bring with you to how to blend in and how you know ‘you’ve been in Indonesia for too long’. Philosophical as ever, Ria regards the world as one ‘big tent’ where we all live together under the same moon and stars, something expats can all relate to.

Although a very recent repatriate to her native Michigan, Michelle accepted her first teaching position in Indonesia when she had recently graduated college. Her aim was to write diligently, to share her struggles and triumphs as she worked towards becoming a better teacher, writer and world traveler. Her posts about expat life are thoughtful and well written, and will definitely resonate with any current expats. With an interest in photography it’s unsurprising that her blog is filled with candid shots of life and travels and they make a great accompaniment to her varied content.
