Australia is an increasingly popular destination for itchy-footed Brits and it is easy to see why with its combination of Western lifestyle and warm climate. Of all the locations Down-Under, Sydney is hard to beat in terms of economic opportunity, cultural heritage and stunning climate.
It is the most populous of all Australian cities, and is considered as the country’s economic hub despite not being its Capital. Around 40% of the top 500 firms in Australia operate out of Sydney while nearly half of its broadcasting industry is also based there, providing a large spectrum of employment opportunities.
Although its metropolitan district is set against the gorgeous backdrop of the Sydney harbour, its natural beauty is also vast, with national parks, bays and beaches surrounding the city. As far as weather goes, its location next to the ocean ensures that the temperatures do not climb to the uncomfortable levels of some other Aussie locations, with a temperate climate that offers a very pleasant average high of 23-26°C during the summer and dropping to just 16°C during the winter.
Vancouver, Canada
It may lie in close proximity to the USA, but life in Canada is a million miles away from American life, with dramatically lower crime rates, free healthcare and a generally friendlier population.
Vancouver in particular proves a popular destination for many as, like with Sydney, it combines a strong economy and Western culture with a temperate climate that would prove more tolerable to many Brits than the extremes of cold that other parts of the country can experience.
The North American city also has a fantastic infrastructure in place, and the Vancouver government are constantly promoting the proliferation of ‘green’ building development, as well as an ambition to be the most environmentally friendly city on the planet by 2020.
Auckland, New Zealand
Offering arguably the best quality of life in the whole of the Asia-Pacific region, Auckland is New Zealand’s most populous city, but at 1.4 million people it is far from overcrowded.
The economic centre of the country, Auckland is responsible for 35% of the total GDP output, while a recently launched 30-year initiative called ‘The Auckland Plan’ is looking to make it the most liveable city in the world.
The plan will seek to address issues such as housing, employment and green issues, while the temperate climate provides a welcome change from the dreariness of British weather. An average high for the year of 18.9°C that drop no lower than 14.5°C represents really comfortable conditions that help to make living in Auckland a fantastic experience.
