The Bahamas – Recommended Blogs

At Expat Focus, we like to be on the lookout for resources around the web that could help prospective expats adjust to their new countries. Today, we’re taking a look at the Bahamas and some of the blogs that might be useful for expats there.Redneck'N'paradise

The Redneck and Ms Awesomeness (AKA CJ and Denise) moved to the Bahamas from Southern California in 2012 and haven’t looked back. From the mundane to the ridiculous, facts of life to ramblings, CJ’s honest anecdotes about island life are entertaining as well as useful. Written with a firm belief that paradise is what you make it, this blog pulls no punches about expat life in Nassau and beyond.

Out Island Life

If you really want to know the ‘realities of living in paradise’ this blog is an excellent place to start. More than just an endless summer, island life can be challenging, even to these long term expats. Cooking with limited ingredients and dealing with tropical storms, the cost of importing goods and the surprise of finding all the shops closed for Easter when you have friends coming over for dinner, this blog has you covered. Their pictures of white sandy beaches are enough to melt any possible expats heart and the first hand advice makes this blog a must read.

Anderson Clan Adventures

This sailing family of six have now moved on from the Bahamas but their blog is a wealth of information on more than just the sailing aspect of their expat life. Educating and entertaining four children aboard a catamaran is no mean feat and through trial and error their recommendations literally go from A to Z. If you are looking for an expat life on water or an insight into the road less travelled, this blog is an inspiring place to start.

Island Life

This Bahama mama found her dreamy island paradise on vacation in 1993 and by 2004 that was her life. The realities of dealing with the consequences of hurricanes are laid bare in this blog, next to her adventures and love of food. With the beautiful photographs that pepper her posts it’s easy to see why the Bahamas draws expats from far and wide.

Women who live on rocks

A gaggle of women blogging under one banner, because they all, (strangely enough) live on rocks. Handily located under ‘Northern Caribbean’ you will find 11 women who call some of the 700 islands of the Bahamas home, and write about their expat life. Sharing their honest experiences of expat life, and some very island specific information which would definitely prove helpful to anyone thinking of making the move. You’ll find women who followed jobs, family or just their sense of adventure to make a sun drenched island their home, and you’ll find that, as with true love, the course of expatriation is never completely smooth.
