Egypt – Residency

Egypt offers several types of residency visas for foreign nationals depending on the purpose of their stay. The most common types of residency permits include:

Tourist visa

Tourist visas are issued to foreign nationals who wish to visit Egypt for a short period of time. The tourist visa is valid for a period of 90 days and can be extended for an additional 90 days.

Student visa

Foreign nationals who are studying in Egypt can apply for a student visa. To obtain this visa, the applicant must provide proof of enrollment in a recognized educational institution in Egypt. The student visa is valid for the duration of the academic program.

Work visa

Foreign nationals who have been offered a job in Egypt can apply for a work visa. The employer must apply for a work permit on behalf of the employee. Once the work permit is approved, the employee can apply for a work visa.

Business visa

A business visa is issued to foreign nationals who are visiting Egypt for business purposes, such as attending a conference or conducting meetings. The business visa is valid for a period of 30 days and can be extended for an additional 30 days.

Family reunion visa

Foreign nationals who have an Egyptian spouse or children can apply for a family reunion visa. This visa allows the foreign national to reside in Egypt with their family members.

Permanent residency

Foreign nationals who have been living in Egypt for a certain period of time may be eligible to apply for permanent residency. To be eligible for permanent residency, the foreign national must have a valid residency permit and have lived in Egypt for at least 10 years.

Process for Applying for Residency in Egypt

To apply for a residency permit in Egypt, foreign nationals must submit an application to the Ministry of Interior. The application should be submitted through the General Department of Immigration and Passports.

The following are the general steps for applying for a residency permit in Egypt:

  1. Obtain a visa for entry into Egypt.
