Perhaps one of its biggest selling points, Australia has a climate that attracts people from across the world. Within the country, the weather patterns vary a great deal. While Northern Australia has tropical hot and humid weather, Southern Australia experiences a more temperate climate and seasonal climate and Western Australia has very hot and dry summers and cooler winters. Rainfall throughout the year is low across Australia. Depending on family preferences, there is a weather pattern to suit all desires.

Employment

While affected by the global economic recession, unemployment in Australia is still relatively low compared to other parts of the globe. Work permits and residency is a difficult process in the country and is becoming ever more difficult to obtain. The Australian immigration policy is tight and they only offer permits for skilled workers who tick off various criteria, including health. There is a list of jobs that Australia requires skilled workers in and many families are able to obtain residency status as a result of a member of the family qualifying for the various criteria.

While many expats choose the East Coast, such as Sydney for employment, Perth, in the West, also offers new and exciting opportunities for jobseekers, particularly due to the mining boom of the past decade. Wages and benefits are high in this industry, which requires large workforces.

If your family is fortunate enough to pass the stringent Australian immigration measures, the country offers ample employment opportunities in most industries.

The country’s economy has benefited recently from offering a working holiday visa to some 18-30 year olds, to be able to work and travel around the country for 12 months. The country has a young feel to it and numerous opportunities for youth.

Education

Australia has a similar education system to that of the UK and US, which means that a move to the country is reasonably hassle free. The quality of education is good and children leave with academic achievement which is recognised in other Western countries.

Although expats will find the cost of living in Australia higher than in Europe and the US, the country appeals to people hoping to move and work there because of its diversity, its striking scenery and landscape, the welcome from the relaxed locals and the fantastic climate. The Government ensure that expats are cared for and can offer a high quality of life for people of all ages, with opportunities for the young, employment for parents and appeal for those reaching retirement age.
