Straddling the borders of Austria and Slovakia, this Facebook group was created exclusively for Americans who have made the move overseas for a taste of uniquely European culture. The close-knit group of people share experiences, offers help or advice, like to make new friends and enjoy planning events to celebrate American traditions, especially around the family holidays back home.
Feels Like Home AT
This Twitter account is the public face of Feels Like Home, a resource website for international students and expats thinking of moving to Austria. Full of inspirational quotes, fantastic articles that tap into the expat psyche and a global community of like-minded members, this is one to follow with interest.
Through her beautifully curated Facebook and Twitter pages it’s easy to keep up-to-date with Carly’s thoughts and adventures, as she shares well written blog posts alongside cool extras that showcase her personality. Not only telling her tales of adapting to Austrian life in Vienna alongside excellent on-the-ground tips, this bubbly Australian addicted to brunch, books and coffee also shares her part-time travel adventures around Europe.
With a very active Twitter feed, blogger Michelle shares her unique travel guides & expat insights as an American living the European life in Vienna, Austria. Michelle also founded and helps run a fantastic community for local and international Women of Vienna, a rapidly growing English-speaking network and resource of friendly local women living in Vienna and the surrounding areas. The WoV organizers also create various events throughout the month and has several sub-groups for particular interests.

Full of members’ stories, meetups and local tips, the public Facebook group “~~~ Expat in Austria ~~~” is an intriguing collection of striking images and the practicalities of expat life. Often linking back into the mother company comparison website via handy articles written in a professional tone, this page is one to watch.
Sharing her adventures as a wife and mom living far from her native America, Holly’s active Facebook and Twitter accounts not only support her beautifully written blog, but provide another window into the challenges and joys of living on a different continent. Articles range from topics such as celebrating the joy of her English-speaking son making kindergarten friends who don’t share the same language to the practical contrasts of experiences in the healthcare facilities of each country.
Expats in Linz and Upper Austria
This almost 900-strong Facebook group was created for English-speaking expats living in Linz and Upper Austria. Initiated as a supportive community, the group is administrated by two American women – originating from California and Ohio respectively – and even includes a garage sale sub-group for those second-hand necessities for living on the beautiful Danube riverbanks.
Austro-American Society of Upper Austria
Represented with a crossing of the two country flags, the Austro-American Society of Upper Austria was set up in Linz 1946 and has since offered a great variety of activities in the fields of culture, education, science and politics to foster better understanding among Austrians, Americans and the friends of both countries. With both a physical address and their Facebook group, entry is free and events are often organised – perfect for expats new to Upper Austria.
Providing up-to-date news about the region, this Facebook page and Twitter account shares articles in English for expats who like to keep informed. Covering everything from serious news to more light-hearted happenings, this Austrian arm of the The Local, Europe’s largest English-language news daily network, is an excellent source of current events.
Expats And Friends Of Austria
This closed Facebook group (for privacy) of nearly 200 expats and their friends share tips, guidance and a friendly social media shoulder for those settling into a new life in Austria. Joining the group is the best way to properly gain an insight into real life in amongst the beautiful cafe culture of Vienna and the music ringing from the hills of Salzburg.
Hello and Hallo
Chelsea is an American expat living (and loving) life in Austria. Hello and Hallo is her blog full of expat resources, travel tips, information on Austrian culture, and insights from adventures abroad. Her Facebook page is updated with posts and musings of her journey from California to Carinthian and provides a good resource for inspiration & commiserations on the unique joy of expat life.
