Greece - Recommended Expat Blogs

  Posted Thursday November 24, 2016 (19:10:27)

At Expat Focus, we like to be on the lookout for resources around the web that could help prospective expats adjust to their new countries. Today, we’re taking a look at Greece and some of the blogs that might be useful for expats there.

An Octopus In My Ouzo

This published author is a jack of many trades - hotel and taverna assistant over summer holidays, independent editor and agent. Born in Manchester, England Jennifer lives in Tilos, Greece and embraces the sunshine-filled life of an expat.

The Skiathian

Candidly journalling their bjourney through life on an aegean island this Skiathian not only lives with two self confessed fruitarians, experiences seismic rumbles and cares deeply for the community around him. Such can be the direction that expat life takes emigres in.

Keep Talking Greece

Written in English and providing an honest view from the inside of Greek shores, this blog for expats shares almost everything new expats could need in terms of news, opinion pieces, interesting law changes and a side of cute things to make readers smile. Full of interesting and informative articles, this is a blog/site worth bookmarking.

Teacher Dude's Grill and BBQ

A teacher, originally from England, now living in Northern Greece, blogs about the topics closest to his heart. Focusing recently on teaching materials for recent refugees and assuming the nom de plume 'teacher dude', this blog is a thought-provoking source of expat views since 2005.

This Manhattan dweller swapped skyrises for souvlakia whilst searching for a community in which to raise her two daughters, and her Greek husband knew just the place where they could discover more intimacy with nature. Amber's expat life is a series of beautiful discoveries, wonderful friends and experiences that need to be savoured to be believed.

Amanda Settle

Having lived in 4 countries over 8 years, luckily Amanda has "just the right blend of crazy" to have settled on the Greek Island of Rhodes as an expat, wife and friend (her words). On her YouTube channel she shares some of the wonderful discoveries of island life so far - a perfect, candid resource for pre-research (and adventures planning).

Kritsa, at the heart of it all

Initially just briefly holidaying in the beautiful islands of Greece, author Yvonne and her husband were won over by the lifestyles of Greek locals, they now live for over half of the year in a hillside village in the east of Crete. These UK expats know a thing or two about changing their lives (and have even hacked the availability of a certain yeast-spread Brits love on their breakfast toast.)

She means well, but...

Assuming the pen name AJ MIllen and a set of fiery locks, this Brit has lived in Greece for a quarter of a century, and not only shares her every day experiences but also occasional short pieces of fiction that stir the senses.

Barry's Ramblings

Sharing his wanderings and passions around the fascinating Greek islands, Barry's Ramblings is a fascinating collection of musings, personal posts and wild walks in this exotic locale.

Passion For Greece

Co-authored by a Russian expat living in Greece for over 20 years and a globetrotting New Yorker, Passion For Greece is a travel blog that shares the aspect of Greek life that keeps the authors addicted to the island way of life. With travel tips, personal stories and fascinating insights to fully discovering the heart of this nation, this is a fairly new blog well worth keeping an eye on.

We’re always on the lookout for more sites to feature - if you run a blog about living in Greece, leave us a link in the comments and we’ll take a look!
