At Expat Focus, we like to be on the lookout for resources around the web that could help prospective expats adjust to their new countries. Today, we’re taking a look at the UK and some of the blogs that might be useful for expats there.

Oh, the places we will go!

American Selena confesses to being unadventurous by nature, but her blog says otherwise. You can follow her expat life from the honeymoon period through to applying for citizenship, from her first home in London to her now village based life in Surrey. Read her expat check-ups for a glimpse at the realities of her new life. Her guides to attractions in London, the rest of the UK and a significant chunk of the world are useful for expats and travellers alike, and accompanied by great photography.

Young Rubbish

Jess and Jon are American born, London dwelling expats; teacher turned mature student Jess chronicles their life in a bustling capital city. If you’d like a peek at some London secrets, an assignment in Australia and more explorations in the UK, make sure you stop by this blog. Their vlog channel adds an additional something special to their always-enjoyable content and photography.

Postcards From Across the Pond

Having grown up in upstate New York, Michael refers to himself as an ‘accidental expat’. You’ll find him writing articles on expat life from his home in Sussex. A writer by profession, his posts are always entertaining and are sure to resonate with current as well as future expats. A blog originally started over 15 years ago to keep in touch with friends and family has developed into the thoughts and conundrums of a grandparent abroad, pointing out the absurdities of everyday expat life.

Transatlantic Blonde

This Blonde American has been living in Glasgow since 2004. Now married to NotBlondeHusband and accompanied by two smaller blondes, she blogs to keep her family and friends updated on their expat family life. For anyone planning to give birth in or take children to the UK, this blog will provide some useful tips. Adapting to Scotland from Cincinnati has not always been easy for this blonde or the rest of the family, but she has documented their lives to give the reader a balanced view of what expat life can be.

Found Love Now What

Belinda is living her expat life in North Wales, far away from her native USA. Her positive attitude and gratitude shine out of her blog - wearing rose tinted glasses is sometimes necessary to deal with expat struggles as she settles into her new life. An expat for love, she passes on her wisdom about long distance relationships, as well as musings about marriage and life lessons as she approaches her next expat anniversary. Those ah-ha moments are something every current expat can understand and every future expat will find useful to know.

Expat Linguist

American Rachel and her husband started their expat journey in Germany, and when they had a pretty decent handle on the German language they moved to North Wales, where they are learning a little Welsh. The energetic pair enjoy exploring the natural beauty of their surroundings on foot as well as finding new favourites to make home feel more like home. Expat issues like finances, taxes and having connections to more than one country are all covered here, along with a range of beautiful photographs of some stunning Welsh scenery.

Girl, Here and There

From Orlando to Glasgow, first to study and later staying for love, Mary blogs about her life with her husband and kitten. If you are looking to study abroad you will find a very useful series penned during her time as a Masters student in the city as well as an extensive guide to the city itself, which anyone will find useful. When tourist time is over and real life kicks in, she aims to still carry on exploring her new home with the same enthusiasm for expat life which first brought her to Scotland.

Coloring without Borders

Located in Bristol via Glasgow having started out in Raleigh, North Carolina, this expat family has a blog that is ‘meatier than the typical internet fare’. Realistic expat lessons in missing out, fitting in and making adjustments, as well as the need to know information on passport renewals and visa applications, are plentiful on this blog. This stay at home dad and his family endeavour to 'colour outside the lines' and stretch their boundaries, both in their new home and abroad.

We’re always on the lookout for more sites to feature - if you run a blog about living in the UK, leave us a link in the comments and we’ll take a look!
