At Expat Focus, we like to be on the lookout for resources around the web that could help prospective expats adjust to their new countries. Today, we’re taking a look at China and some of the social media accounts you should be following if you’re thinking of moving there.

China Expats
Facebook Group

With nearly 6,000 members, the China Expats Facebook is a group where expats share and access topics such as new business trends, Chinese legals matter, job opportunities, education, local health care and interesting events all around China. Rather professional in tone, this is an excellent source of information for those new to China as well as longterm residents.

Shanghai Expat

Claiming to be one of the most active English-language forums in China, this 60,000 member strong community is full of tips, advice and essential local knowledge. Focusing on one of the largest cities - one with over 5 million residents - this is an essential Facebook page to help expats settle into their new life. Featuring jobs, housing, personals, articles and events listings amongst other user listed articles, it makes for a fascinating read.

Young Expats In China

With a focus on the under-30s, be prepared for a supportive group of expats with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humour. The Young Expats In China Facebook page was launched in 2012 and has supported a global base of emigres since. The timeline is a mixture of entertaining thoughts on life and handy explanation guides for living in Asia.

Don't be fooled by the expressive use of punctuation, this group is a professional space in which to to reach out to other local like-minded people, to join, interact, and share experiences. The group administrators encourage the members to ask questions, share, like, dislike, find events, and above all have fun!

Simply calling themselves a community for Expat Women in China, what they do is so much more. Creating a safe and supportive space for all nationalities to chat about the unique challenges, not to mention bonuses of living in China, alongside the occasional video simply designed to lighten the mood of a long weekday. 3,500 people like and follow the page, creating a lively group.

Guangzhou is a sprawling port city northwest of Hong Kong on the Pearl River, and has a large population of expats. Setting up a Facebook group to facilitate new connections and reignite long lost friendships has helped many expats settling into a new home in the city. With an active timeline, the group shares everything from English teaching job roles to introspective articles.

Expat Black Women in East Asia

A major port city in northeastern China, Tianjin is a combination of Chinese architecture, European inspired buildings and gleaming skyscrapers.
